Agape Vespers (Eσπερινός Αγάπης)Easter Sunday (Πάσχα Kυριακή)
The Agape Service on the day of Pascha continuous the themes of triumphant joy and mutual love of the faithful that spring from the risen Christ. “Who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who alone does great wonders!” The Gospel Lesson recounts Christ’s appearances to the disciples and to the doubting Thomas; it is read in many languages symbolizing the universality of the message of the gospel. “Your resurrection, O Christ our Savior, enlightens the whole world, recalling Your own creation (to salvation).
Almighty Lord, glory to You.” The risen Jesus greets the disciples with the blessing: “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” Christ’s resurrection, the triumph over the forces of sin and evil, which corrupt the world and hold humanity captive, is announced and celebrated as the “evangelion,” the good news, offered to all who believe and commit to the good news. The resurrection of the Lord occurred some two thousand years ago as a momentous event, but it endures forever as an abiding power of life and light bringing God’s grace, love, forgiveness, and peace to all who hear the message of salvation, embrace it with resolute faith, and humbly live in union with Christ.
